MANY PATIENTS LIKE THE CONCEPT OF TRANSFERRING TISSUE FROM WHERE THEY DON’T WANT IT – TO WHERE THEY DO
FAT TRANSFER (AUTOLOGOUS FAT TRANSFER) AVAILABLE IN MELBOURNE
The unfortunate reality is that we don’t have a choice where fat chooses to stay on our bodies. Even for those who work out regularly, genetics can still play a part and mean there may be areas you wish were more or less defined. When exercise and dieting can’t gain the result you are after, a surgical procedure may be a viable option for you. This is called a fat transfer.
A fat transfer is often used in order to achieve a breast augmentation, where fat from other areas of the body is moved to the breasts. Fat can be removed from a variety of unwanted areas, including the waist, thighs and buttocks. Once removed, it is treated and then transferred to the selected region of your body.
FAT TRANSFERS TODAY
In the past few years the effectiveness of this technique has improved, and now patients are becoming aware of the possibility of moving fat from an unwanted part of the body, to an area that they want enhanced – like the face, breasts or buttocks. This method of permanently transferring fat means no foreign materials are left in the body, and the fat should feel completely natural – because it is. It is your own tissue.
Over the past 12 years Dr David has been refining the fat transfer technique with each step of the complex process being analysed, and optimised, to ensure the best possible result for patients. This includes the use of healing lasers both for preparation for surgery, and in the post-operative period. Tiny instruments are used to delicately transfer the fragile fat cells to their new home and give them the best chance of survival there.
In order to consider this procedure, patients need to have adequate fat to harvest – preferably in a difficult to shift location so that it is the last area lost in case of losing weight. The amount of fat that can be successfully transferred depends on many factors, and includes:
age and general state of health
blood supply in the area being transferred to (recipient area)
tightness or looseness of the tissues in the recipient area
